Unite has withdrawn the 23 October to 2 November strikes at Leeds Bradford Airport, which says half-term flights will run as normal. Pay talks move to Acas.

The strikes planned at Leeds Bradford Airport over half-term have been called off. Unite has withdrawn all the industrial action it had set for 23 October to 2 November, and the airport says it will run as normal throughout the holiday (Leeds Bradford Airport, 19 October 2026).

The airport, about 30 miles west of York, is where many York families fly from for half-term.

“With all planned strike action now withdrawn, Leeds Bradford Airport will operate as normal throughout the October Half Term period, with no disruption expected to services,” the airport said.

The pay dispute is not settled

The dispute itself is still open. It covers two groups of staff: the airport’s air traffic controllers and its hourly paid workers.

“A revised pay offer remains on the table for both our air traffic controllers and our hourly paid colleagues,” the airport said. “Both Unite and LBA agree that ACAS support will be helpful to progress the discussions and it is anticipated that process will commence in the coming days.”

The airport added: “We remain focused on reaching a resolution that is fair, sustainable and in the best interests of our colleagues, customers and the airport.”

It said the decision gave “reassurance for thousands of passengers travelling through Leeds Bradford Airport during the October Half Term period”, and thanked customers “for their patience and understanding while discussions have been ongoing”.

What it means for you

  • Flying from Leeds Bradford over half-term: the airport expects no disruption, so plan to travel as booked.
  • Getting there by train from York: there are no trains between York and Leeds from 24 October to 1 November, with buses replacing them. Allow extra time if your route to the airport goes through Leeds. Our guide to the half-term rail closures has the replacement buses and what still runs.
  • Later trips: no new strike dates have been announced, but the pay talks are still going on. Check with your airline nearer the time if you are booked after half-term.
