St Mary's Care Homes has built a 66-bed home on Acomb Road with its own pub and hair salon. The company expects it to support around 75 jobs when full.
A new 66-bed care home has been built on Acomb Road, with its own pub, a hair salon and landscaped gardens. Acomb Manor, at 144 Acomb Road in Holgate, offers residential, dementia and respite care.
St Mary’s Care Homes, a Yorkshire-based group, says the home should support around 75 jobs once it is full. Those roles cover care, hospitality, wellbeing and support.
The home’s own page gives a grand opening date of 24 October 2026. That page was still marked “coming soon” when we read it on 5 November, and it does not say when the first residents move in.
What is there
According to St Mary’s, the home has:
- 66 en-suite bedrooms across three floors
- communal lounges and dining areas
- a pub and a hair salon for residents
- landscaped gardens and a programme of activities
- air source heat pumps and solar panels in a fully electric building, which the company says earns an EPC A rating
Clare Erskine, a registered nurse with more than 30 years in care, is the home manager.
Kate Desmond, the home’s managing director, said she wants it “to become a valued part of the local community”. Steven Davis, the group’s chief executive, called it “a significant investment in York”.
What it means for you
- Families looking for care: the company does not publish fees on the page we read, so ask for them directly. A new home has no track record yet, so also check the Care Quality Commission for its registration and any inspection report.
- Job seekers: St Mary’s lists vacancies in the careers section of its website.
