Haxby could get a repaired bandstand mosaic, more benches and a quiet cycle route in 2027, and the council wants views. Comments close on 9 December 2026.
City of York Council wants Haxby and Wigginton residents to help decide how to improve the village. A first set of small projects could be delivered in 2027.
The work is paid for by the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Mayoral Investment Fund. The council’s release of 4 November does not say how much money is involved.
What is being looked at
The council lists four things in scope for the first phase:
- repairing the bandstand mosaic at Ethel Ward playing field
- adding more public benches
- reviewing The Village, to enhance its character and deal with concerns such as parking on The Green
- finding a quiet cycle route away from the main road
All of it depends on the outcome of the consultation. The council says these could be delivered in 2027 “if agreed”.
There is a second, longer-term strand. The council also wants a plan for projects linked to future housing and to the proposed railway station. Councillor Pete Kilbane, the Executive Member for Economy and Culture, said the aim is to have projects “part designed and ready for when any future funding opportunities arise”.
David Skaith, the Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, said the proposals “must be built from the ground up with your help”.
