Sunday roasts in York from £17.95 at the Rose & Crown to Roots' £75 feast: 11 places with prices, serving times and dog rules, checked October 2026.

If you want a Sunday roast in York, the names most people land on are the Star Inn the City by the river (roasts £24 to £27), Roots on Marygate, Tommy Banks’s Michelin-starred restaurant, with a £75 Sunday Feast, the Fat Badger under the Minster, serving until 8pm, and Pearly Cow in Clifton, with 45-day salt-aged sirloin. Every entry was checked against the venue’s own site on 26 October 2026.

We have not eaten at these places for this guide, and nothing here is a review. Each entry sets out what the venue says about its Sunday lunch, the prices and serving times on its own menu, its rules on booking, dogs and children, and the Food Standards Agency hygiene rating. Menus change week to week, so treat prices as a guide and check before you book.

How we chose

This is a list of the places people search for when they want a Sunday roast in York, chosen on what can be checked rather than on taste: a published Sunday menu or roast page on the venue’s own website, the venue’s standing (Michelin and long-running local names), and the Food Standards Agency hygiene rating. Nothing rated below 3 was considered. We checked each venue’s own website on 26 October 2026 for prices, serving times, dog and child rules and any closure notice, and took hygiene ratings from the FSA register the same day. Some menus are marked as samples by the venue, so dishes and prices move. The Rattle Owl on Micklegate, still on many older roast lists, has closed; Brancusi now trades from 104 Micklegate. We left out Hotel du Vin, the Wenlock Arms at Wheldrake and the Ship Inn at Acaster Malbis for now because we could not find a current Sunday menu on their own websites.
