The Run, a national fostering film shaped with York's Children in Care Council, is shortlisted for an RTS Midlands Award. The winner is named on 2 December.

A film about fostering, shaped with care-experienced young people from York, is up for a Royal Television Society award.

The Run follows a young boy, Tom, and the difference a new foster family makes to his life. Young people from York’s Children in Care Council worked with the film team on its messages, to help make it authentic, the council says.

The film is on the RTS Midlands Awards 2026 nominees list in the Promotional category, under the production company ReelTwentyFive. It is up against three other entries. The winners will be announced at the ICC in Birmingham on Wednesday 2 December.

The Run premiered in October 2025. It is part of a campaign by more than 90 local authority fostering services, project managed by CAN Digital.

Councillor Bob Webb, the council’s Executive Member for Children, Young People and Education, thanked the young people. “Foster carers really do help to change young people’s lives for the better,” he said. “In York we always need more foster carers to help care for local children and young people.”

The film’s director, Rachel Brown, said the project “grew out of the constant struggle to recruit foster carers”. The group of councils behind it began with 12. “Children’s futures depend on having homes to give them a supportive, nurturing upbringing,” she said.
